Full-Time Farm manager and Lodge manageress – Limpopo (Kruger Area)


Job Description


The organization requires a dedicated management couple to fill the two following positions: Farm Manager AND Lodge Manageress. Experience and training in the ecotourism and wildlife / farm management sector is required, but suitable applicants must be able to adapt to a forward-thinking and adaptive management approach with a focus on conservation and local culture. As a non-profit organisation we are not a commercial-based organisation, instead focus is on sustainability and managing the environment responsibly. The Key responsibilities of the Farm & Wildlife Manager AND Lodge Manageress positions are as follows:

Key Responsibilities of the Farm Manager:

• Farm & Habitat Management: including road & fence maintenance, erosion control, alien plant control
• Maintenance of pumps, vehicles, generators, geysers, infrastructure etc.
• Wildlife Management: including maintaining the habitat-prey and predator-prey balance within the ecological capacity of the available habitat, conducting game census, vegetation surveys and game cropping when necessary
• Staff Management, Training & Maintaining Disciplinary Code
• AnimalTracking & Monitoring by vehicle
• Anti-poaching & Security
• Mentoring student volunteers who participate in field activities

Candidate Suitability:
• South African citizens only
• Minimum 10 years farm management experience
• Mechanical experience & general maintenance capability (pumps & vehicles esp., geysers, generators etc).
• Experience with wildlife management is essential
• Weapons (firearm) trained and certified
• Knowledge of LRA and BCEA is a requirement
• Experience with CCMA and Unions essential
• Fluency in English and Afrikaans (conversational) essential
• Conversational Shangaan, Zulu or Sesotho would be ideal
• Valid driver’s license and competent 4×4 driving ability is a requirement.

Key Responsibilities of the Lodge Manageress:

• Managing a 14 bed lodge for specialist groups and workshops, as well as a 6 bed self-catering accommodation, and occasional day visitors.
• Managing the lodge staff of 5 personnel
• Guest bookings
• Planning group itineraries, with the CEO and Office Administrator
• Ordering and collecting of supplies for the lodge
• Guest welcoming & guest relations, and overseeing guests at meal times
• Computer competent: Microsoft Office
• PDP qualification to assist with guest transfers
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and logistics
• NOTE: for safety reasons there is a ZERO ALCOHOL policy at the lodge and staff accommodation

Candidate Suitability:

• South African citizens only
• Minimum 5 years game lodge management experience
• Excellent people management skills (guests & staff)
• Fluency in English and Afrikaans (conversational) essential
• Conversational Shangaan, Zulu or Sepedi is an advantage
• Valid Code 8 driver’s license and competent 4×4 driving ability is a requirement
• Valid PDP essential

Salary: Combined salary of R20 000 / month
Leave: In accordance with BCEA – Flexible, depending on guest occupancies / leave cycle of Lodge Manageress

Note: lodge does not operate 24/7, we accommodate special interest groups mostly as 3 to 4-day long weekends, and occasionally longer 7 to 10-day visits, with time off in between groups

Accommodation: spacious farmhouse with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, dining room and veranda
